Let WooCommerce customers cancel an order
Quick answer
With the ShipEdit plugin, a customer can cancel from the order received page or from My Account, View order, while the order is unfulfilled and inside your edit window. Cancelling sets the order to cancelled so WooCommerce can restock. If the order was paid, ShipEdit also requests a refund to the original payment method.
What the customer sees
The panel says they can update the shipping address or cancel within the edit window, while the order is still unfulfilled. Cancel order asks them to confirm "Cancel this order?" After that, the message depends on the refund:
- Refund issued: "Order cancelled. Your refund has been issued."
- The gateway did not refund: "Order cancelled. The store will process your refund."
- Anything else, including an unpaid order: "Order cancelled."
A failed automatic refund does not undo the cancellation. The merchant gets a note when a manual refund is needed, or when the refund result is unknown. You can turn cancellations off in Rules and still allow address changes.
When cancel is offered
The order has to be unfulfilled, cancellations have to be allowed, and the edit window has to be open. The default window is 60 minutes. Set it to 0 and there is no minute cutoff, but fulfillment still closes it. ShipEdit does not place a Shopify-style fulfillment hold on WooCommerce orders.
Address changes are the same panel. Change a WooCommerce shipping address covers PO Boxes, shipping zones, and the address form.
Price
The WordPress plugin is free. ShipEdit is $9.99 a month for unlimited orders, the same price published on the home page. No upsells.
FAQ
- Where can a WooCommerce customer cancel?
- On the order received page and under My Account, View order, when cancellations are allowed and the order is still unfulfilled and inside your edit window.
- Is the refund automatic?
- If the order was paid and a remainder is left, ShipEdit requests a refund to the original payment method. The customer then sees that the refund was issued, that the store will process it, or only that the order was cancelled.
- Does WooCommerce get a fulfillment hold?
- No. The Shopify On hold option is Shopify only. On WooCommerce, edits stop when the order is no longer unfulfilled or the edit window has ended.
